I was asked what was the toughest part of being a parent. Well, for me it was not getting caught with the kids doing something we were not suppose to be doing. Ok, seriously, I would have to say the toughest part of being a parent would be the discipline part. More specifically, it would be discipline without fear and embarrassment. When I was a young dad, God opened my eyes to my greatest challenge of disciplining my children. One evening we took a walk in our neighborhood. My son started to run off and I yelled at him without considering our surroundings. I remember the fear in my son's little eyes and then I noticed some folks that we knew and the uneasiness in their faces. Wow, I can still feel the emotions go through my body as if it just happened. God spoke to me at that moment and told me that "that was no way to discipline your children" and I knew I was wrong.

Discipline is the most important responsibility a parent has.  It needs to be done with love and compassion and consistency. In the book of Hebrews chapter 12:11, God tells us why discipline is done  ". . .afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness."
